Bengaluru: A major road accident occurred early on Saturday morning near KR Circle (Krishnarajendra Circle), just a short distance from Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru.
Several passengers, including the bus driver, sustained serious injuries after two Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) buses collided at one of the city’s busiest junctions. Rescue teams had to work extensively to evacuate the injured passengers from the damaged bus.
According to preliminary information, traffic was already building up at KR Circle during the early morning hours. A BMTC Vayu Vajra airport bus was waiting at a traffic signal when another regular BMTC bus, reportedly travelling at high speed, rammed into it from behind.
The impact was so severe that the front portion of the regular BMTC bus was completely crushed. The driver suffered serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
A woman passenger also sustained critical injuries after her leg became trapped inside the mangled bus. Rescue personnel had to cut through twisted metal rods to safely free her before she could be shifted to the hospital.
As it was the morning rush hour, both buses were carrying a large number of commuters travelling to offices and other daily destinations. The sudden collision left many passengers injured, particularly those seated in the front rows.
Several women passengers reportedly suffered serious head, hand, and leg injuries due to the force of the impact. Emergency responders and police personnel immediately reached the spot and shifted the injured to nearby hospitals.
The accident caused severe traffic congestion at KR Circle, one of Bengaluru’s busiest intersections. Traffic police quickly cleared the damaged buses from the road and restored the movement of vehicles.
