Karnataka to Begin Recruitment for 74000 Government Vacancies as Major Hiring Drive Gets Underway

Thousands of job aspirants across Karnataka have received a major boost as the state government prepares to launch one of its biggest recruitment drives in recent years. The recruitment process for 74000 vacant government posts is set to begin, with officials promising a transparent and technology driven examination system designed to prevent irregularities and restore confidence among candidates.

The large scale hiring initiative was discussed during a high level review meeting chaired by Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, where senior ministers and top government officials reviewed preparations for the recruitment process. The government has indicated that the appointments will begin immediately, with a significant number of vacancies expected to be filled within the next six months.

State Minister Priyank Kharge announced that while the overall recruitment drive covers 74000 vacant government positions, the government has set an initial target of filling 36774 posts during the first phase. According to him, departments have already begun preparations to ensure that the recruitment process moves forward without unnecessary delays.

The announcement comes at a time when thousands of young graduates and job seekers have been waiting for fresh government employment opportunities. Over the past few years, delays in recruitment have led to frustration among aspirants preparing for competitive examinations. The latest decision is therefore being viewed as an important step towards addressing long pending vacancies across various government departments.

Officials stressed that the recruitment examinations would be conducted under strict supervision to eliminate the possibility of malpractice. Learning from controversies surrounding competitive examinations in different parts of the country, the Karnataka government has decided to strengthen every stage of the examination process through improved technology and administrative monitoring.

One of the major highlights of the new recruitment system will be the introduction of a random question bank. Officials said question papers will be generated using a secure process that reduces the possibility of leaks or manipulation. Authorities also plan to prepare tamper proof question papers to ensure that examination integrity is maintained from printing to distribution.

To further strengthen security, jammer devices will be installed in every examination hall. These devices are expected to prevent unauthorized electronic communication during examinations, reducing the risk of cheating through mobile phones or wireless devices.

The government has also instructed district administrations to make extensive preparations before the examinations begin. District Commissioners have been given detailed guidelines covering examination centre management, candidate safety, logistics and monitoring arrangements.

Flying squads will be deployed across examination centres to conduct surprise inspections and ensure compliance with examination rules. According to officials, these teams will begin visiting centres immediately to verify preparedness and identify any shortcomings before the examinations commence.

The Karnataka Examination Authority has also issued detailed instructions regarding the dress code for candidates. Authorities clarified that candidates must strictly follow the prescribed guidelines, which include a list of permitted and prohibited items.

Officials explained that certain traditional items such as sacred threads, kumkum and mangalsutras will be allowed inside examination centres. At the same time, candidates have been informed that while scarves will be permitted under specified conditions, hijabs will not be allowed during the examinations as per the announced guidelines.

Apart from improving examination security, the government has also announced structural reforms aimed at making future recruitment exercises more efficient. A Competitive Examinations and Recruitment Reforms Committee will be constituted under the chairmanship of retired Chief Secretary SV Ranganath.

The committee will also include former Chief Secretaries TM Vijay Bhaskar and Vandita Sharma along with the Chief Minister’s Economic Adviser LK Atheeq. The panel has been assigned the responsibility of reviewing recruitment procedures, recommending reforms and ensuring greater transparency in future appointments.

Officials believe that the committee will play an important role in modernising recruitment systems and introducing long term safeguards against examination related irregularities.

The government has maintained that every effort is being made to ensure a fair recruitment process that gives equal opportunity to all deserving candidates. Authorities insist that transparency, accountability and strict monitoring will remain the guiding principles throughout the hiring exercise.

However, the recruitment announcement has also sparked political debate. The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party has accused the state government of failing to fill vacancies quickly enough and has alleged shortcomings in previous recruitment processes.

State BJP President BY Vijayendra recently demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry into alleged irregularities related to recruitment agencies, including the Karnataka Public Service Commission. According to the opposition, a thorough investigation is necessary to restore confidence among government job aspirants.

Despite the political criticism, the state government has reiterated that the upcoming recruitment drive represents a fresh beginning and has assured candidates that strong safeguards are being introduced to avoid any controversies similar to those witnessed in competitive examinations elsewhere.

Employment experts say filling thousands of vacant government positions will benefit not only job seekers but also public administration.
