Mysuru Housing Scam: ED seizes 252 illegal MUDA allotments worth Rs 440 crore

Mysuru Housing Scam: The Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) housing allotment scam, which had created significant political turmoil in Karnataka and caused difficulties for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, has taken a major turn.

Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials have now seized 252 allotments, collectively valued at Rs 440 crore, found to have been distributed illegally by MUDA authorities.

ED officials, while intensifying the investigation, discovered that these 252 sites were irregularly allotted. Among them, 32 sites owned by former MUDA Commissioner Dinesh Kumar, valued at Rs 40.8 crore, have been attached.

It was found that Dinesh Kumar had transferred ownership of these properties to his family members. Dinesh Kumar had been recently arrested by the ED. Investigators allege that he created fake documents to facilitate the illegal redistribution of these sites, thereby gaining financial benefits.

ED sources stated that sufficient evidence of the illicit wealth accumulation has been recorded. Dinesh Kumar had assumed office as MUDA Commissioner in 2022. Allegations of irregularities in the 50:50 proportion site allotment surfaced against him, prompting the state government to transfer him from the post.

Earlier, ED officials had seized 92 sites worth Rs 100 crore under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), bringing the total value of attached assets in this case to around Rs 400 crore.

The investigation continues as authorities probe deeper into the irregularities and illegal profiteering by MUDA officials.
