Court order life imprisonment to Prajwal Revanna for rape 55 year house worker

Prajwal Revanna: A special court in Bengaluru on Saturday August 2 sentenced a Prajwal Revanna, the former Janata Dal (Secular) MP from the Hassan constituency to life imprisonment for raping 55 year house worker.

On August 1, 2025 a special court in Bengaluru has convicted Prajwal Revanna, in a rape case. The court found him guilty of raping a domestic worker at his family’s farmhouse in 2021.

This conviction is the first in a series of four criminal cases filed against him, which include charges of rape, sexual harassment, and criminal intimidation. The cases came to light after pen drives containing explicit videos, allegedly involving Prajwal Revanna, were circulated in Hassan ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Prajwal, who is the grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, was arrested on May 31, 2024, after he returned to India from Germany. The trial in this particular case was completed in a little over two months, with the court examining 26 witnesses and relying on digital and forensic evidence, including a video recording and DNA reports.

The court is scheduled to announce the quantum of his punishment on August 2, 2025. Following the verdict, Prajwal Revanna, who was in judicial custody, reportedly broke down in the courtroom.
