Paytm Introduces Biometric UPI Payments and Cardless ATM Withdrawals for Faster Transactions
The new Paytm update allows users to make secure UPI payments without PIN and withdraw cash from ATMs using biometrics, making everyday financial transactions more seamless and convenient

Paytm has rolled out a major update to its app, bringing biometric UPI authentication and cardless ATM withdrawal features to users in India. With this update, customers can now authorize payments using fingerprints or Face ID, eliminating the need to enter their UPI PIN for transactions up to 5,000 rupees, in line with NPCI guidelines.
The new biometric system works with the built-in sensors on smartphones, such as Android fingerprint scanners and iOS Face ID. Paytm and associated banks do not store users’ biometric data, ensuring privacy while allowing secure authentication. Users can continue to use the traditional UPI PIN if they prefer. The feature is designed to cover a wide range of functions, including payments, balance checks, and ATM cash withdrawals.
In addition, Paytm now supports cardless ATM withdrawals. Users can scan a QR code displayed on ATM screens and authenticate using Face ID, fingerprint, or UPI PIN. This removes the need to carry a physical debit or ATM card. Typically, cash withdrawals can go up to 10,000 rupees per transaction, though exact limits may vary depending on bank policies and UPI regulations.
The system also allows users to select from multiple linked bank accounts, making it easier to withdraw or transfer funds from the preferred account. According to Paytm, these updates will make payments and cash access faster, more convenient, and more secure than ever before.
To withdraw cash via Paytm UPI, users must link their bank account and ensure it is active. At an ATM offering UPI Cash Withdrawal or Cardless Withdrawal, select the option, enter the withdrawal amount, scan the QR code with the Paytm app, choose the bank account, and complete authentication via UPI PIN or biometrics.
For enabling biometric payments, users need to open the Paytm app, tap on the profile icon, go to settings, and select “Pay with Fingerprint” or “Pay with Face ID.” Once authenticated, payments, balance checks, and withdrawals can be done using biometrics for added convenience and security.
This update marks a significant step in simplifying digital transactions and reducing dependency on physical cards while maintaining high security standards for users across India.
