Gym trainer accused of targeting Hindu women with misconduct, outrage erupts in Dharwad

Dharwad, : Tension prevailed in parts of Dharwad after a group of activists staged a protest against a gym trainer accused of inappropriate behaviour towards women. The incident has sparked outrage and raised concerns over safety standards in fitness centres.
According to allegations, a trainer identified as Sabir, working at a private fitness centre in Maratha Colony, behaved inappropriately with women during training sessions. The gym, reportedly known as Fitness First, came under scrutiny after complaints surfaced that the trainer allegedly engaged in unwelcome physical contact under the pretext of providing guidance during workouts.
Activists associated with Bajrang Dal alleged that the trainer specifically targeted Hindu women and behaved indecently during training sessions. They further claimed that he even entered the women’s restroom area, intensifying concerns about privacy and safety.
The issue is not entirely new, as activists claimed that the accused had been warned earlier regarding his conduct. However, with fresh allegations emerging, members of Bajrang Dal locked the gym premises and staged a protest demanding strict action against the trainer.
Protesters gathered outside the gym and raised slogans, insisting that authorities take immediate action to ensure the safety of women visiting such facilities. They also demanded that the accused be brought to the spot and questioned in their presence.
Upon receiving information, police from the local sub-urban police station rushed to the scene to bring the situation under control. Officials attempted to pacify the protesters and urged them to allow the law to take its course. However, demonstrators remained firm in their demand for direct action against the accused.
Police sources said that they are verifying the allegations and will proceed based on formal complaints and evidence. Authorities have also indicated that strict action will be taken if the accusations are proven true.
The incident has once again highlighted the need for stricter monitoring of private gyms and fitness centres, especially in ensuring the safety and dignity of women. Experts have stressed the importance of installing surveillance systems, hiring certified trainers, and maintaining clear grievance redressal mechanisms.
Meanwhile, police have urged the public not to take the law into their own hands and assured that a fair investigation will be conducted.
