Bengaluru: Police have arrested five persons in connection with the brutal murder of a mechanic who was beaten to death in front of his children over an alleged demand for ₹50,000 in the jurisdiction of Wilson Garden police station.
The victim, identified as Rasheed Pasha (45), was attacked late Sunday night on Bada Makhan Road. According to police, the accused assaulted him with a cricket bat and other blunt objects, leading to his death on the spot.
Police said the accused—Parvez, Afrid, Munawar, Asgar and Seyd Sadhiq—were arrested soon after the incident and were produced before a court on Monday. The court remanded all five accused to judicial custody.
According to investigators, the accused had approached Rasheed on Sunday morning demanding ₹50,000. Rasheed, who had recently installed a new mould at his small shop, refused to pay the money, which led to a heated argument between him and the group.
Police said the accused returned later in the evening around 8.30 pm and confronted him again.“The accused assaulted the victim with a cricket bat and a wooden club in front of his two children. Due to the severe injuries, he died on the spot,” police said.
The incident created panic in the locality as residents rushed to the scene after hearing the commotion. The attackers initially fled the spot, but police later tracked them down and arrested them. Senior police officers rushed to the location soon after the murder was reported. Akshay M. Hake, Deputy Commissioner of Police of the Central Division, visited the crime scene and reviewed the situation.
To prevent tension in the area, police deployed personnel from the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) as a precautionary measure. Police said a detailed investigation has been launched to determine the exact sequence of events and the role of each accused.
Family members of the victim have demanded strict punishment for those responsible. “My brother was a hardworking man who struggled to support his family. Just for money, they brutally killed him in front of his children,” said his brother Nadeem Pasha. “We want justice and strict action against the accused,” he added.
Police said further investigation in the case is ongoing.
