Woman accuses Moodabidri police inspector of sexual harassment, bribery demand

Mangaluru: A woman has accused a police inspector in Moodabidri of sexual harassment and demanding a large bribe in exchange for releasing her husband, triggering serious allegations against the officer in Dakshina Kannada district.

The woman has filed a complaint against Inspector Sandesh, who is currently serving at the Moodabidri Police Station. According to her complaint, the inspector allegedly demanded ₹25 lakh or sexual favors to release her husband, who had been arrested in a case.

The woman stated that she visited the police station seeking help to secure the release of her husband, who she claims was arrested in a false case. However, instead of offering assistance, the inspector allegedly made shocking demands.

“He told me that if I wanted my husband to be released, I should either pay ₹25 lakh or cooperate with him sexually,” the woman alleged in her complaint. According to her statement, the officer also allegedly threatened her with further action if she refused to comply.

The woman further claimed that the inspector told her he had paid ₹50 lakh to secure his posting and therefore expected money in return.“He said he had spent ₹50 lakh to get this posting and demanded ₹25 lakh from me to release my husband,” the complainant said.

The victim also alleged that the officer tried to intimidate her by claiming that several other women had allegedly complied with his demands in similar situations.

“He told me that hundreds of women had already cooperated with him in the same way and warned me to do the same,” she alleged. The inspector allegedly threatened to open a rowdy sheet against her husband if she refused to meet his demands. The woman also claimed that he warned he could use drug peddlers to tarnish her reputation.

Following the incident, the woman said she submitted a formal complaint to senior police officials seeking action against the inspector. However, she alleged that no action has been taken so far despite her complaint.

“The officer seems to have the support of higher authorities, and that is why no action has been taken against him,” she said. The allegations have sparked concern in the region, with demands for a thorough investigation into the conduct of the officer and the claims made by the complainant.

Police officials have not yet issued an official statement regarding the allegations, but sources indicate that the matter may be examined by senior authorities.
