India Will Defend Its Citizens Against Terrorism, EAM Jaishankar Warns Pakistan

New Delhi, : India has the right to protect its citizens if a neighboring country deliberately and persistently supports terrorism without remorse, Union External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar asserted while taking a stern stance against Pakistan. Speaking at an event at IIT Madras on Friday, Jaishankar emphasized that India will act decisively to safeguard its people, regardless of external opinions.

He stated, “We do not require anyone to dictate what we should or should not do. If a nation chooses to continue terrorism without remorse, we have the right to protect our citizens, and we will exercise that right.” The minister also highlighted India’s diplomatic approach toward neighboring countries, stressing that India supports and invests in nations with a constructive mindset.

Addressing regional issues, Jaishankar referred to recent unrest in Bangladesh. He said, “Just two days ago, I was in Bangladesh to represent India at the funeral of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. India engages with neighbors positively, investing and sharing support wherever there is goodwill.”

Jaishankar also spoke about India’s ancient civilization and modern democratic values, underscoring that the country has consistently promoted democracy as a global ideal. “India’s history, culture, and ethos obligate us to present our values responsibly to the world,” he said.

He outlined India’s global partnership strategy, referencing the principle of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—the world as one family. “India has never approached the world as an adversary. Our foreign policy focuses on maximizing impact even with limited resources through strategic partnerships, democratic practices, and multilateral institutions,” Jaishankar noted.

The minister highlighted India’s vaccine diplomacy during the COVID-19 pandemic as an example of global responsibility. “India’s vaccine assistance saved lives in small and developing countries. While some developed nations hoarded vaccines, India ensured equitable distribution worldwide. Our vaccine production remains among the most efficient globally,” he said.

On territorial integrity, Jaishankar reaffirmed Arunachal Pradesh as an integral part of India, criticizing China for harassing an Arunachal woman at Shanghai Airport. He emphasized that such actions change nothing on the ground and reiterated India’s firm stance against any territorial encroachments.
