Kempegowda International Airport: Bengaluru experienced extreme cold and foggy weather this morning. Due to this, 81 flights were delayed at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), Bengaluru, and flights arriving from Mangaluru and Delhi were diverted. Flights have now returned to normal.
81 flights were reportedly delayed due to the low visibility caused by the fog. The foggy conditions caused delays between approximately 4:44 am and 8:00 am on Thursday, November 27. Some flights were delayed for a short period, while others were delayed for a maximum of 69 minutes.
According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) norms, there is a limit of 15 minutes for flight delays, and 33 out of 81 flights are said to have crossed this limit.
During this time, the routes of two flights were diverted, and the Air India Express flight (IX 2923) arriving from Mangaluru to Bengaluru at 7.21 am was sent to Chennai. Air India flight (AI 2653) from Delhi to Bengaluru at 7.47 am has been diverted to Kochi.
Although flight operations have now returned to normal, the morning delay has affected other flights as well. The fog, known as radiation fog, is a common seasonal challenge in Bengaluru between November and February, often reducing visibility to unsafe levels for flight operations.
Operations are generally reported to be back to normal, though minor knock-on delays may still be expected as the airport works to clear the backlog. If you are traveling through Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) today, it would be best to check the latest status with your specific airline.
