Asia Cup 2025: The Asia Cup 2025 is scheduled to start on September 9, 2025. The tournament will be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and will run until the final on September 28, 2025. There is significant uncertainty surrounding the availability of both Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav for the Asia Cup 2025.

Suryakumar Yadav is still recovering from a sports hernia surgery he underwent in June. While he has resumed batting practice at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and his recovery was initially reported to be on track, recent reports have cast doubt on his readiness.

It was reported that he would need another week at the NCA to achieve full fitness. There are also claims that he has “mysteriously” flown to Japan for a couple of days, adding to the uncertainty. The final decision on his inclusion is expected after he returns and is fully assessed.

Hardik Pandya: The star all-rounder underwent a routine fitness assessment at the NCA in Bengaluru on August 11 and 12. He had been training in Mumbai since mid-July. The results of this fitness test are crucial for his selection. He had been a key player in India’s recent T20 successes, and his fitness is a major factor in the team’s balance.

The official squad for the Asia Cup has not yet been announced, and the final decision on both players’ participation will depend on their medical reports and fitness assessments. The selection committee is expected to announce the squad soon, possibly on August 19 or 20.

Suryakumar Yadav is expected to be the captain for the Indian team in the Asia Cup 2025. He has been the full-time T20I captain since Rohit Sharma retired from the format following the T20 World Cup in 2024. Under his leadership, India has had a successful run, winning 17 out of 22 matches.

There is also a strong possibility that Shubman Gill will be named the T20I captain for the tournament if Suryakumar Yadav is not fit. Gill, who is the current Test captain, is in excellent form and his inclusion would signal the selectors’ long-term plans for him as a leader across formats.
