KL Rahul Play for KKR as captain in IPL 2026

KL Rahul: The Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) season will feature a mini-auction, which is a key difference from the mega-auction that took place before the 2025 season. This means that teams will not have to completely rebuild their squads but will instead focus on filling gaps and fine-tuning their rosters. KL Rahul Play for KKR as captain in IPL 2026.

Reports suggest that the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are seriously considering a blockbuster trade deal to bring star Indian batsman KL Rahul into their squad for the IPL 2026 season, with the possibility of making him their captain.

Following a disappointing IPL 2025 season where they finished 8th under the captaincy of Ajinkya Rahane, KKR is reportedly looking for a major squad overhaul. They believe that a player of KL Rahul’s caliber could be the solution to multiple problems, including providing a stable top-order batsman, a wicketkeeping option, and a reliable leader.

The franchise’s interest in Rahul is not just for his batting prowess but also for his captaincy experience. Rahul has previously captained the Punjab Kings and the Lucknow Super Giants, leading the latter to the playoffs in his first season.

A significant reason behind KKR’s keenness is said to be the presence of their assistant coach, Abhishek Nayar. Rahul has openly praised Nayar for his role in helping him fine-tune his white-ball game, and the two share a strong working relationship.

Rahul played for the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL 2025 season after being bought for Rs 14 crore. A potential trade deal with DC could be a major hurdle, as sources suggest that KKR may not have a suitable player to offer in return that would be of equal value to the Delhi franchise.

KKR is not the only team eyeing Rahul. Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals are also reportedly in the race to acquire the services of the in-form batsman. While there is no official confirmation from either KKR or the Delhi Capitals, the buzz surrounding this potential trade deal is building up ahead of the IPL 2026 mega-auction.
