Karnataka CM Change Issue: DK Shivakumar made big statement from Delhi

Karnataka CM Change Issue: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has consistently downplayed the ongoing speculation in the media about a potential change in the Chief Minister’s post. His recent statements, particularly ahead of a meeting with Rahul Gandhi in Delhi, reinforce this position.

“Only Hearing Speculations in the Media”: Shivakumar has repeatedly stated that he is not aware of any internal discussions or moves for a leadership change within the Congress party. He attributes such reports to media speculation, saying things like, “I don’t know what is speculation from your side. There is no speculation within my ear or my eyes.”

While he has previously acknowledged his aspiration for the Chief Minister’s role, he consistently emphasizes that any decision on leadership rests solely with the party high command. He publicly maintains that he will abide by their directives.

Shivakumar has even gone to the extent of warning MLAs and supporters who publicly advocate for him to become CM, stating that disciplinary action could be taken against them. This is seen as an attempt to project unity and avoid open dissent.

He has also stated that the party’s immediate focus is on strengthening the Congress for the 2028 Assembly elections, rather than on internal leadership changes now. Both Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and D.K. Shivakumar have made public appearances together, emphasizing their unity and dismissing rumors of a rift. Siddaramaiah has also asserted that he will complete his full five-year term as CM.

There have been unconfirmed reports of a “rotational chief minister” agreement between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar when the Congress formed the government in May 2023. While never officially confirmed by the party, these reports fuel the ongoing rumors, especially as the government approaches the halfway mark of its term.
