Internal unrest in Karnataka BJP: There have been recent reports of internal unrest and factionalism within the Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Union Minister Pralhad Joshi has been actively involved in holding “closed-door meetings” to address these issues.

The BJP in Karnataka is grappling with significant internal divisions, particularly at the district level. This includes disputes between rival groups, such as those led by former MLA Veeranna Charantimath and MLC P.H. Poojar in Bagalkot, and concerns about the party’s performance in constituencies like Davanagere, where they lost the Lok Sabha seat in the 2024 elections.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, a prominent leader from Karnataka, has been tasked by the central leadership with resolving these internal rifts. He has been holding a series of meetings with key local leaders from affected districts.

In these meetings, Joshi has reportedly listened to the grievances of various factions and their supporters, aiming to understand the root causes of the discontent. Cautioning Against Public Statements: He has also cautioned leaders against making public statements that could further exacerbate the divisions within the party.

The primary objective of these meetings is to resolve differences and ensure the party functions as a cohesive unit, especially in preparation for upcoming civic and assembly elections. Former Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda and Chitradurga MP Govind Karjol are also part of a team tasked with ironing out differences within the party, indicating a concerted effort by the central leadership to bring about unity.

The party’s performance in the recent Lok Sabha elections (where they didn’t sweep as expected, and lost a bastion like Davanagere) has led to introspection and blame games. There have been ongoing discussions about the leadership within the state unit, including the position of State President B.Y. Vijayendra (son of B.S. Yediyurappa), with some sections questioning his leadership after the bypoll losses.

Some leaders reportedly feel marginalized or overlooked, leading to internal dissent. There have been instances of leaders publicly criticizing prominent figures like B.S. Yediyurappa and B.Y. Vijayendra, which Joshi is trying to curb.

In essence, Pralhad Joshi’s closed-door meetings are a direct response to the “internal blast” within the Karnataka BJP, as the party high command seeks to quell dissent and restore unity ahead of future electoral challenges.
