Existing Vande Bharat services from Bengaluru go to destinations like Dharwad, Belagavi, Hubballi, Chennai, Mysuru, Hyderabad, and Coimbatore. For other trains, the travel time between Bengaluru and Mangaluru typically ranges from 9 to 12 hours, with some express trains taking around 8-9 hours.

News from late June 2025 indicates that the Bengaluru-Mangaluru Vande Bharat Express is “nearing operational status,” with electrification work and infrastructure upgrades largely complete or well underway. The aim is to significantly reduce the travel time between the two cities, potentially to around 6 hours, which would be a major improvement over the current 9-12 hours taken by existing express trains.
A significant portion of the necessary electrification work has been completed (22 km out of 33 km remaining are underway, as of recent reports). The Hassan-Mangaluru stretch is particularly challenging due to its many tunnels (57) and bridges (700).

The introduction of this service is expected to boost connectivity, comfort, and regional development for districts like Bengaluru, Tumakuru, Hassan, and Mangaluru. There have also been announcements regarding a Vande Bharat Sleeper rake being in the pipeline for Mangaluru, which would be part of the next batch of production and aimed at overnight travel.
While you cannot book a Bengaluru to Mangaluru Vande Bharat Express ticket today, it is a highly anticipated route and official announcements about its launch are expected in the near future. Keep an eye on Indian Railways and IRCTC notifications for the official inauguration.
