Karnataka: With India Meteorological Department (IMD) sounding an red alert in Udupi, the district administration has declared holiday for schools, high schools and anganwadis on June 12. Karnataka: School holiday declared this district due to heavy rain.

Deputy Commissioner said all the precautionary measures have been taken and school and college heads have been asked not to use old and dilapidated buildings for holding classes.
The monsoon has regained momentum in Karnataka after a brief lull, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted widespread heavy rainfall across the state until June 14.

The IMD said that heavy rainfall is expected in the next 48 hours, with 13 districts, including coastal Karnataka, likely to receive heavy rainfall till June 14. Red alert has been declared for nine districts including Dakshina Kannada (D.K.), Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Belgaum, Dharwad, Haveri, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, and Shimoga.

IMD issued orange alert has been issued for Vijayapura, Mysuru, Hassan, Davanagere, Koppal, Raichur, and Gadag districts. Yellow alert has been declared for Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Chikkaballapur, Chitradurga, Kolar, Mandya, Ramanagara, and Tumakuru districts.

Several parts of Karnataka, including Bengaluru, witnessed a heavy downpour accompanied by thunder on Tuesday night. Areas that received significant rainfall include Aurad, Bidar, Bargur, Annigere, Humnabad, Chittapur, Chitgoppa, Sira, Bengaluru, Davanagere, Maddur, Gubbi, Jagalur, Hiriyur, Indi, Bhalki, Sedam, Karkala, Mangaluru, Bantwal, Kundapur, and JKVK.

Although the state had received pre-monsoon rains earlier, the rainfall was less since the onset of monsoon. However, since June 10, monsoon activity has picked up again. As per the IMD, coastal Karnataka is expected to receive rain from June 12 to 16, north Karnataka from June 12 to 15, and south interior Karnataka from June 15 to 16.
