Karnataka: Heavy Rainfall alert in these districts for next 3 days

Karnataka: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow warnings of thunder, lightning, storms and heavy rainfall in various parts of Karnataka from May 15 to May 18.

On May 15, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had declared an Orange Alert for districts in Karnataka, warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds. A yellow alert has been issued for Uttara Kannada, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts.

Heavy rain and hailstorm lashed several parts of the city on Monday, with hailstorms reported in areas like Kalyan Nagar.The rain caused heavy traffic congestion, standing water in low-lying areas, and slow-moving vehicles obstructing traffic.

Many roads have been partially blocked due to flooding. The warning covers Coastal Karnataka, North Interior Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka, where the weather conditions are expected to remain unstable and there is a possibility of localized disruptions.

The IMD has clarified that while there are no indications of extreme weather, the public, especially in vulnerable areas, should remain vigilant. The weather is expected to stabilize in all areas from May 19, and no warnings have been issued for the period from May 19 to May 21.

Meanwhile, Magadi in Ramanagara district received the highest rainfall in the state till 6:00 am today, with 105 mm. The town, located about 38 kilometers from Ullal Nice Road junction in Bengaluru, was hit by thunderstorms that originated in northwest Bengaluru and moved southwest, intensifying over Magadi in the evening.
