Heavy Rainfall alert: The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms and lightning in some areas on April 18 and 19. Heavy Rainfall alert in these states till April 22: Issued yellow alert.

These areas include the Western Himalayan region and Northwest India. Heavy rainfall is expected in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh. The weather forecasting agency said that from April 16 to April 18, rain with thunder, lightning and wind is expected in the Vidarbha plains of Chhattisgarh.

Meanwhile, Assam and Meghalaya are likely to receive heavy rainfall from April 21 to April 22. On Wednesday, April 16, several parts of Himachal Pradesh received heavy rains and hailstorms. This has disrupted power supply in Shimla and uprooted trees in some areas.

Due to rain, the local road connecting Richmond and Jakhoo in Shimla became impassable. Apart from Shimla, some parts of Amritsar received rain and thunderstorms, while Mohali experienced thunderstorms.

Earlier, the IMD had forecast that there is a possibility of rain in Himachal Pradesh on April 18 and April 21 due to a strong Western Ghats disturbance. The weather is expected to change in the next two days, the report said, quoting Shobhit Katiyar, senior scientist at the IMD’s Himachal Pradesh centre in Shimla.

“In the next 48 hours, the weather will be mostly clear across the state. However, a very active Western Disturbance is expected to affect Himachal Pradesh from the afternoon of April 18 to the morning of April 21.
