Parappana Agrahara Jail Warder Attacked By Murder Case Accused In Bengaluru

A serious incident has been reported from Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Jail, where a warder was allegedly assaulted by inmates facing charges in the murder of Mangaluru based Bajrang Dal activist Suhas Shetty. The incident reportedly took place inside the prison on September 2 and came to light later.

The incident occurred around 11.30 am in the convict section of the jail, according to the complaint. Warder Manjunath had reportedly gone to the section in connection with official duties related to the premature release process.

While he was carrying out his work, five inmates allegedly confronted him. The accused have been identified as Mohammed Mujamil, Abdul Shafghan, Mohammed Rizwan, Niyaz and Kalandar Shafi. They allegedly abused Manjunath before forcibly taking him towards room number four of a barrack.

The situation reportedly escalated quickly, with the inmates allegedly attacking the warder. The complaint states that the accused also allegedly grabbed his neck and attempted to suffocate him. Other prison officials and staff members on duty reportedly noticed the situation and rushed to intervene.

The alleged assault is believed to have links to an earlier dispute inside the prison. Around a month before the incident, some inmates had reportedly been moved from the security section to Annex One of the prison. During that process, Manjunath had checked their belongings and allegedly stopped them from carrying additional items.

The checking of the inmates’ belongings reportedly led to an argument between the warder and some of the accused. Prison authorities had also allegedly been informed about concerns relating to activities inside the jail. The accused reportedly held a grudge against Manjunath over these issues, which is being cited as a possible reason behind the alleged attack.

The incident has once again brought attention to security and discipline inside Parappana Agrahara Jail. An assault on prison staff within a high security facility raises questions about how such confrontations develop and whether warning signs were missed before the alleged attack.

The five inmates involved in the incident are accused in the Suhas Shetty murder case. Their alleged involvement in the attack on a prison employee has added another serious development to the case.

Following the incident, a complaint was filed at the Parappana Agrahara Police Station. The police are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and the events that preceded it.
