Ballari Anganwadi Faces Allegations Over Expired Food Kits Given To Pregnant Women

An Anganwadi centre in Ballari is facing questions over the alleged distribution of expired food kits meant for pregnant women, new mothers and children. The issue has triggered concern among residents, who are demanding an immediate inspection by the concerned authorities.

The incident has reportedly been reported at the MK Nagar Anganwadi centre in Ward 35 of Ballari city. According to allegations from members of the public, some beneficiaries received food kits from the centre and later noticed that certain items inside the packages had already crossed their expiry dates.

The concern reportedly came to light only after the food kits were taken home and checked. Residents have alleged that items supplied as part of the nutritional support package were not within their recommended consumption period when they were handed over to beneficiaries.

The food kits reportedly included items such as a nutritional food packet, jaggery and sugar. Residents have expressed particular concern because the supplies were intended for vulnerable groups, including pregnant women, new mothers and children.

Questions have also been raised about the production and expiry dates printed on the packages. The food kits were reportedly manufactured on May 15 and carried a stated shelf life of three months. Residents allege that the distribution took place even after the three month period had ended, with around another 15 days having passed.

The allegations have led to anger among local residents, who are asking why the food supplies were not checked before being handed over. They have also questioned who would be responsible if anyone developed health problems after consuming food that had already crossed its expiry date.

The matter has gained attention at a time when food safety inspections are being carried out across Karnataka. The Food Department has been conducting checks at hotels, restaurants and other food establishments and taking action against products considered unsafe or past their permitted consumption period.

Against this backdrop, allegations involving food distributed through an Anganwadi centre have raised additional concerns. Such centres play an important role in providing nutritional support to children and women, making proper checking and handling of food supplies particularly important.
