Relentless rainfall continues to batter Mumbai and several parts of Maharashtra, severely disrupting transportation and daily life. Waterlogging has affected many low lying areas of the city, while authorities remain on high alert as more heavy rain is forecast over the next two days.
Train operations have been impacted across several routes due to flooded tracks, while numerous flights have either been cancelled or delayed because of adverse weather conditions. The widespread disruption has left thousands of passengers stranded and caused significant inconvenience across the state.
According to weather officials, several regions of Maharashtra recorded nearly 600 millimetres of rainfall over the past 24 hours. Lonavala in Pune district received around 670 millimetres of rain during the same period, making it one of the worst affected locations.
The continuous downpour also triggered landslides along the Karjat Lonavala ghat section on the Mumbai Pune route. The debris blocked roads, leading to major traffic congestion that has continued for two days and slowed vehicle movement in the region.
As a precautionary measure, schools and colleges in Mumbai, Thane, Pune and Palghar have been closed. Local authorities have urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel and remain indoors unless absolutely essential.
The India Meteorological Department has warned that the Konkan region and areas along the Western Ghats are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall over the coming days. Emergency teams are closely monitoring the situation and carrying out relief and restoration work wherever required.
An orange alert remains in place for Mumbai as additional spells of heavy rain are expected. Officials continue to monitor water levels and civic infrastructure while appealing to the public to follow weather advisories and safety instructions until conditions improve.
