New Delhi: The Delhi government is set to roll out its EV Policy 2026 from July 1 with the aim of reducing air pollution and accelerating the shift towards electric mobility. The policy focuses on encouraging residents to replace older fuel powered vehicles with cleaner electric alternatives while strengthening the city’s overall EV ecosystem.
One of the key highlights of the policy is the incentive for owners of older BS IV vehicles. Under the new scheme, individuals who scrap their BS IV car and purchase a new electric vehicle will be eligible for a government incentive of up to Rs 1 lakh. The initiative is expected to gradually remove highly polluting vehicles from Delhi’s roads and promote environmentally friendly transportation.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that the Delhi Cabinet has approved the new policy. According to the government, the initiative is designed not only to increase electric vehicle ownership but also to create a stronger foundation for sustainable transportation across the national capital.
The government plans to significantly expand charging infrastructure as part of the policy. New charging stations, battery related facilities and both public and private charging networks will be developed to make owning and operating electric vehicles more convenient for residents.
Officials believe the EV Policy 2026 will attract investments of nearly Rs 15000 crore over the next four years. The expected investments will support charging infrastructure, electric vehicle manufacturing, battery technology, service centres and related industries.
The Delhi government also expects the policy to generate thousands of new employment opportunities while strengthening the electric mobility sector. By combining financial incentives with infrastructure development, the administration aims to make electric vehicles a practical and attractive choice for more consumers while helping improve air quality in the city.
