Karnataka Weather Forecast: Heavy Rain Alert For Coastal Districts And Bengaluru

Karnataka is seeing an active monsoon spell, with rain expected across several parts of the state over the next two days. The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places in Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka, along with thunderstorms and gusty winds in parts of the state.

The coastal belt is likely to remain the focus of the current spell. Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada could receive heavy showers, while parts of the Malnad region may also see stronger rainfall.

Bengaluru is not expected to escape the wet weather either. Forecasts indicate generally cloudy conditions with intermittent showers and a chance of isolated thunderstorms in the city. Recent forecasts also suggest that the capital may continue to experience unsettled weather during the coming days.

Heavy rain possible in Coastal Karnataka

Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada are among the districts where heavier rainfall is expected. Strong winds may accompany the showers, particularly along the coastal belt.

The IMD has also issued a marine warning for the Karnataka coast, with squally winds of around 40 to 50 kilometres per hour and gusts potentially reaching 60 kilometres per hour. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.

Malnad districts remain on watch

Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan and Kodagu are also likely to receive rain during the current weather spell. Some areas could see heavier showers, particularly where the monsoon activity strengthens.

The combination of rainfall and gusty winds may make travel difficult in some locations, especially in hilly and coastal areas.

North Interior Karnataka may also receive rain

The rain is not expected to remain limited to the coast and Malnad. Parts of North Interior Karnataka, including Vijayapura, Raichur, Dharwad, Gadag, Kalaburagi and Bagalkot, may receive light to moderate showers.

Belagavi, Bidar, Haveri, Koppal and Yadgir are also expected to see rainfall in some areas, with thunderstorms and strong winds possible during the period.

Rain outlook for August 25

The wet conditions are expected to continue into August 25. Coastal Karnataka is likely to remain among the areas receiving the most significant rainfall, while Malnad districts may also see another spell of showers.

Parts of South Interior Karnataka, including Bengaluru, Mysuru, Mandya, Tumakuru, Chikkaballapur, Kolar, Ramanagara and neighbouring districts, could receive light to moderate rain.

Recent rainfall across the state

The latest spell has already brought notable rainfall to several locations. Recent reports said Agumbe in Shivamogga recorded around 8 centimetres of rain, while Indi in Vijayapura received about 7 centimetres. Subrahmanya in Dakshina Kannada also recorded around 5 centimetres during the reported 24 hour period.

With the monsoon remaining active, residents in rain affected areas are advised to stay updated with local weather warnings, particularly during thunderstorms and periods of strong winds.
