Eid Milad Holiday Declared on August 25 In Dakshina Kannada And Udupi
The holiday, which was earlier scheduled for August 26, 2026, has now been advanced to August 25, 2026.
The Karnataka government has revised the date of the public holiday for Eid Milad in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. The holiday, which was earlier scheduled for August 26, 2026, has now been advanced to August 25, 2026.
The additional secretary of the Karnataka Government has issued an official order in this regard. The decision was taken following requests from the Deputy Commissioners of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, considering the local observance of Eid Milad and the prevailing situation in the region.
Several Muslim organisations and members of the public had urged the government to declare the holiday on August 25, as Eid Milad is being celebrated on that day across the coastal districts. District In-charge Minister U.T. Khader had also appealed to the state government to revise the holiday date.
Meanwhile, August 26, 2026, will be a regular working day for government offices and educational institutions in these two districts. The additional secretary of the Karnataka Government, in an order issued by its Secretary, has referred to letters submitted by the Deputy Commissioners of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on August 20, requesting a change in the date of the Eid Milad public holiday.
According to the order, the Deputy Commissioners have been authorised to declare August 25, instead of August 26, as the public holiday for Eid Milad, based on the prevailing local situation and in accordance with the applicable rules.
As a result, government offices, educational institutions, and all other establishments covered under the State Government’s public holiday notification in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts will observe the Eid Milad holiday on August 25 instead of August 26.
