Karnataka Congress Hits Back At BJP Protest Over B Nagendra Resignation
Karnataka Congress workers staged a counter protest against BJP demands for B Nagendra resignation, accusing the opposition of ignoring corruption allegations involving its own leaders.
The political confrontation in Karnataka has taken another turn after Congress workers staged a protest against the BJP over its demand for Minister B Nagendra resignation.
The BJP had stepped up its protest outside Vidhana Soudha, demanding Nagendra step down over the alleged 187 crore Valmiki Corporation scam. Opposition Leader R Ashoka and other BJP workers had attempted to march towards the legislature complex as part of the agitation.
Congress responded with a protest of its own, turning the focus towards alleged corruption involving BJP and JD(S) leaders.
Congress Workers Wear Political Masks
During the demonstration, some Congress workers wore masks representing prominent BJP and JD(S) leaders. The move was intended to underline the ruling party’s allegation that the opposition should also answer questions about corruption controversies involving its leaders.
Kushal Abhay Gowda, Bengaluru West district Congress vice president, defended the protest while speaking to ANI. He accused the BJP of being associated with several corruption controversies and questioned its criticism of the Congress government.
The Congress leader also argued that Nagendra had already resigned earlier and was later given another responsibility after allegations against him were not established as claimed by the party.
Opposition And Ruling Party Trade Charges
The dispute centres on allegations linked to the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation. The BJP has continued to target the Congress government over the issue and has demanded political accountability from Nagendra.
Congress, meanwhile, has sought to turn the spotlight back on the BJP, citing various controversies and allegations from previous years. Party workers questioned why the opposition was focusing on the Congress government while, according to them, remaining silent on issues involving BJP leaders.
The latest protest highlights the increasingly sharp political exchange between the two parties in Karnataka. With both sides trading corruption allegations, the Valmiki Corporation controversy continues to remain a major point of confrontation between the ruling Congress and the opposition BJP.
