Spam calls have become a growing concern for smartphone users, especially on messaging platforms that are widely used for personal and professional communication. To address this issue, WhatsApp offers a built in feature that can automatically silence calls from unknown numbers.
Today, smartphones play a central role in daily life. From office work and business communication to staying connected with family and friends, people rely heavily on mobile applications. Among them, WhatsApp remains one of the most frequently used platforms for messaging, voice calls, video calls, and file sharing.
Many users are unaware that WhatsApp includes a privacy tool designed specifically to limit unwanted calls. The feature, known as Silence Unknown Callers, helps users avoid disturbances caused by suspicious or unfamiliar numbers.
Once enabled, the feature automatically mutes incoming voice and video calls from numbers that are not saved in the user’s contact list. It can also identify whether there has been any previous interaction with that number through WhatsApp call history. Calls from completely unknown contacts are silenced without interrupting the user.
However, if a user has previously communicated with a particular number through WhatsApp calls, the feature will not block or mute future calls from that contact. This ensures that genuine connections are not affected.
To activate the feature, users need to open WhatsApp, access the Settings menu, select Privacy, and then enable the Silence Unknown Callers option. After turning it on, unwanted calls from unfamiliar numbers can be significantly reduced, providing a more secure and distraction free experience.
