Madras High Court Allows Withdrawal of Petition Against Tamil Nadu CM Vijay

The Madras High Court closed proceedings against Chief Minister Vijay after the petitioner sought permission to withdraw a plea seeking investigation into alleged undisclosed income related matters.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay received relief from the Madras High Court after a petition seeking an investigation into alleged undisclosed income was withdrawn by the petitioner during court proceedings.

A division bench headed by the Chief Justice and another judge heard the matter on Tuesday. During the hearing, the petitioner informed the court of his decision to withdraw the plea and requested permission to do so. The bench accepted the request and allowed the withdrawal.

The petition had sought action under various legal provisions, including an investigation into allegations related to income disclosures. It also requested criminal proceedings and further examination of materials connected to earlier tax related inquiries.

According to the petitioner, income tax authorities had conducted searches at Vijay’s residence in 2015. The plea referred to cash allegedly recovered during those searches and claimed that the amount was not properly reflected in financial records.

The issue had earlier been linked to a tax penalty imposed by authorities. Vijay had challenged that penalty before the Madras High Court, but the petition filed in that matter was dismissed earlier.

With the latest petition now withdrawn, the court brought the proceedings to a close. No further directions were issued by the bench in the matter.
