Birthday joy turns into tragedy as wall collapse kills 6-year-old girl in Bengaluru

Bengaluru : What began as a joyful outing ahead of a birthday celebration ended in unimaginable tragedy after a compound wall collapse near Bowring Hospital claimed seven lives, including a six-year-old girl, following heavy rains that lashed the city.
The victim, identified as Musavir Begum, had stepped out with her family to shop for her upcoming birthday, which was scheduled for May 3. Unaware of the looming danger, the child was happily selecting new clothes along with her mother Mubeen Taj and aunt Tabreen Taj in Shivajinagar when the incident occurred.
According to officials, the relentless downpour weakened the compound wall near Bowring Hospital. Within moments, the structure gave way, trapping several people beneath the debris. Musavir, who was caught under the rubble, struggled for life before succumbing to her injuries. Despite desperate attempts by family members and locals to rescue her, she could not be saved.
The heartbreaking detail that has emerged since is that Musavir was the only child of her parents, Mubeen Taj and Chand Pasha. The loss has left the family devastated, with relatives inconsolable over the sudden and tragic death of the young girl who was just days away from celebrating her birthday.
The family resides in Venkateshapura near Kadugondanahalli. Musavir’s aunt, who was present at the spot, sustained injuries in the incident and is currently undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital. Authorities confirmed that multiple casualties occurred due to the collapse, raising serious concerns about infrastructure safety in the area.
Preliminary investigations suggest that soil excavation and dumping along the base of the compound wall had weakened its foundation. Additionally, vegetation planted along the edges may have further compromised its structural integrity. The heavy rainwater exerted pressure on the already fragile wall, ultimately leading to its collapse.
The tragic incident has sparked outrage among residents, who have demanded accountability from civic authorities. Questions are being raised over negligence and lack of proper maintenance, especially in a high-footfall area like Shivajinagar.
As the city mourns the loss of innocent lives, Musavir’s story stands out as a painful reminder of how a moment of celebration can turn into a lifetime of grief.
