HMT Independence Day Sale Records Rs 35 Lakh In One Day

HMT watches witnessed strong Independence Day demand as thousands of customers reportedly lined up for special editions, giving the revival effort fresh momentum and renewed public confidence.

HMT watches saw strong Independence Day sales.

The HMT sale crossed Rs 35 lakh in one day.

Young buyers showed strong interest in HMT watches.

HMT watches received an encouraging response from customers during the Independence Day sale, with sales reportedly generating more than Rs 35 lakh in a single day.

Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H D Kumaraswamy said the response showed that the brand still enjoys considerable goodwill among Indian consumers. He was speaking in Holenarasipura in Hassan district.

According to Kumaraswamy, HMT had released a selection of special edition watches for Independence Day. Customers reportedly turned up in large numbers, with queues stretching for more than two and a half kilometres at some locations.

Thousands of watches were sold during the occasion, he said. The strong sales performance has added confidence to the ongoing efforts to revive HMT and bring the brand back into the spotlight.

Kumaraswamy said HMT continues to have a special place among Indian consumers. There was a time when wearing an HMT watch was associated with pride and prestige, and the government wants to restore some of that lost appeal.

The minister said efforts to revive the company have been continuing for nearly two years. A high level committee headed by V K Saraswat, a member of the NITI Aayog, was formed to examine the company’s future and suggest measures for its revival.

The committee has already submitted its report with several recommendations. Kumaraswamy also said he had discussed the revival plan with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

The Independence Day response was particularly notable among younger customers. Kumaraswamy said young people, along with older customers and children, were willing to stand in long queues to purchase the watches.

He thanked customers for their continued support and specifically acknowledged the growing interest among young buyers. According to him, their enthusiasm could play an important role in bringing HMT back to a stronger position in the watch market.

The latest sales performance has given the revival campaign a visible boost, while the government continues to examine longer term steps for rebuilding the iconic Indian watch brand.
