David D’Souza Murder Case: Police Fire at Accused Trying to Escape

In a dramatic turn of events, police shot Raju in the leg after he allegedly attacked the officers and attempted to escape during his arrest.

Police have arrested one of the accused, identified as Raju, who was allegedly involved in the brutal shooting and murder of businessman David D’Souza (55) at Mudrangadi. In a dramatic turn of events, police shot Raju in the leg after he allegedly attacked the officers and attempted to escape during his arrest.

On Friday at around 3:50 pm, David D’Souza was heading towards his car in front of his business establishment, ‘Prince Point’, located opposite the Mudrangadi Church. At that moment, a bearded assailant riding a motorcycle approached him and allegedly shot him in the head from close range. Even after David collapsed, the attacker reportedly fired additional shots at his chest before fleeing the scene on a waiting motorcycle.

David, who suffered severe blood loss, died on the way to the hospital. Within a few hours of the incident, a joint team led by Kapu PSI Tejaswi and Karkala Rural PSI Prasanna arrested Raju and was taking him into custody. However, when they reached the Ottinene area near Byndoor, the accused allegedly attacked the police personnel and attempted to flee.

Reacting immediately, Kapu PSI Tejaswi fired his service pistol at Raju’s leg and managed to take him into custody. PSI Tejaswi also sustained injuries in the accused’s alleged attack and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Udupi. Udupi District Superintendent of Police (SP) Hariram Shankar visited the hospital and enquired about the officer’s health.

The swift action by the police team in tracking down and arresting the accused within hours of the shooting has drawn widespread appreciation from the public. Meanwhile, police have launched a search operation to trace and arrest another suspect allegedly involved in the crime.
