Hindu Family Locked Inside Home and Set on Fire – Taslima Nasreen Condemns the Attack

New Delhi: The violence against Hindus in Bangladesh continues to escalate, with the recent attack on a Hindu family in Chittagong district’s Rauzan region.

Local Bangladeshi assailants targeted the home of a Hindu family and set it on fire after locking them inside. Despite their best efforts, the family managed to escape the blaze and survive the horrific attack.

The assailants, reportedly from the Muslim community, poured petrol on the house and set it on fire while the family of four, consisting of a husband, wife, and children, was locked inside. The incident has drawn widespread condemnation, especially from the Hindu community, who are increasingly feeling threatened in their own homeland.

The Bangladesh government, under the leadership of Dr. Mohammad Yunus, is facing intense scrutiny for its inability to prevent such incidents. The attack, which is part of a broader pattern of violence targeting Hindus, has sparked outrage both within Bangladesh and internationally. The incident has prompted outcries from human rights activists and political leaders.

One of the most vocal critics of the Bangladesh government is renowned writer and activist, Taslima Nasreen. She took to Twitter to express her disgust at the horrific incident and criticized the lack of action from Bangladesh’s advisory government under Dr. Yunus.

She tweeted, “In Rauzan, Chittagong, uncivilized Muslims locked the doors of Hindu homes and set them on fire, burning many houses to the ground. Hindus barely escaped with their lives.

How can they rebuild their homes? Will Yunus take action against the Hindu-haters and uncivilized Muslims? Will he provide justice to the Hindus? Or is he turning a blind eye to this because it hasn’t made international headlines yet?”

In another tweet, Nasreen pointed out the hypocrisy of Dr. Yunus, who has been lauded internationally for his efforts in poverty alleviation and women’s empowerment, despite his government’s failure to protect minorities within Bangladesh.

“Under Dr. Yunus’s leadership, Bangladesh has seen gross violations of human rights, including gang killings, communal violence, and rape against women. Yet, internationally, he is praised for talking about women’s economic empowerment.

While he talks about empowering women on the global stage, Bangladesh’s women are being oppressed and violated in his own country,” she added. Nasreen’s anger is also directed at the international community’s indifference to the ongoing violence against Hindus in Bangladesh.

“While Yunus gives speeches on international platforms about poverty and women’s rights, back home in Bangladesh, factories are burning, and Hindu workers are being rendered jobless. The international community is silent, and the persecution of Hindus continues,” she remarked.

The situation in Bangladesh has caught the attention of other international leaders as well, including former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, who has sharply criticized Dr. Yunus for allowing anti-Hindu violence to take place under his watch.

Sheikh Hasina accused Yunus’s government of conspiring against the Hindu community, labeling it as part of a systematic campaign to eliminate Hindus from Bangladesh.

As the violence continues, there is growing concern that Bangladesh is becoming increasingly unstable. The attack on the Hindu family in Rauzan is just one of many incidents in recent weeks, and the international community is beginning to take notice of the escalating crisis.

The violent protests following the death of student leader Sharif Usman have also seen violent attacks on Indian consulates and media offices. In Dhaka, protesters targeted two prominent media houses, setting fire to their buildings while 25 journalists were trapped inside.

Thankfully, the journalists were rescued by security personnel, but this act of violence has added to the growing international concern regarding the state of affairs in Bangladesh.

India, which has been monitoring the situation closely, has reacted strongly to the growing anti-India sentiment in Bangladesh, particularly after the inflammatory statements made by Bangladeshi leaders advocating for the separation of Northeast India.

In response, India has suspended all visa services to Bangladesh and summoned the Bangladeshi High Commissioner to express its serious concerns.
