WhatsApp introduced screen sharing feature: Check how it works

WhatsApp has a built-in screen sharing feature that works during a video call. It is available on Android, iPhone, and the Windows desktop app. The screen sharing feature on WhatsApp allows you to broadcast a live view of your phone or computer screen to other participants during a video call.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to share your screen on a WhatsApp video call:

Step-by-Step Guide (Mobile – Android/iPhone)

1. Open WhatsApp and start a video call with the person or group you want to share your screen with. (Screen sharing is not available during audio calls).

2. Once the call connects, look at the video controls at the bottom of your screen.

3. Tap the “Share Screen” icon.

This icon typically looks like a phone with an arrow pointing away from it (on Android) or a screen with a figure in front of it (on iPhone/iOS).

4. Your phone will display a prompt warning you that you are about to start recording or casting your screen with WhatsApp. It will also remind you that any sensitive information (like passwords or payment details) visible on your screen will be seen by the call participants.

5. Confirm that you want to share your screen by tapping “Start Now,” “Start Broadcast,” or a similar option.

6. A countdown will begin (e.g., 3, 2, 1), and then your screen will be visible to the other people on the call.

7. You can now navigate your phone, open different apps, and everything you see will be shared. The video feeds of the other call members will usually appear in a small window overlay.

8. To stop sharing, return to the WhatsApp call screen and tap the “Stop Sharing” button.

Important Things to Note (“The Tricks”)

You Must Be in a Video Call: Screen sharing is only an option once a video call has been initiated and connected.

Latest Version: Ensure your WhatsApp app is updated to the latest version to access this feature.

Privacy First: Everything on your screen is visible, including notifications, private messages, usernames, and passwords. It is highly recommended to:

Turn off notifications before you start screen sharing.

Close sensitive apps or tabs.

Only share your screen with people you trust.

End-to-End Encryption: WhatsApp states that screen sharing is protected with end-to-end encryption, meaning no one outside of the call (not even WhatsApp) can see or record what you share.
