Meta AI Set to Turn Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram into Health Advisory Platforms, Raising Debate on Future of Medical Guidance

Meta plans to integrate its Muse AI model across Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram to offer health advice, sparking debate over accuracy, safety concerns, and the future role of doctors globally.

Meta is steadily transforming its social media platforms into more advanced digital ecosystems, and the next big step appears to be in healthcare. The company behind Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram is working on introducing artificial intelligence powered health advisory features that could soon provide users with basic medical guidance directly within these apps.

This development is expected to be powered by Meta’s in house AI system known as the Muse model. According to Meta AI chief Alexander Wang, the company views health as one of the most important areas for AI expansion, especially as it prepares to reach billions of users worldwide through its platforms.

Interestingly, Meta has already begun building its AI ecosystem further with the introduction of the Muse Spark model earlier this year. Developed under Meta Superintelligence Labs, Muse Spark is considered an early version focused on expanding AI capabilities, particularly in health related functions. However, Wang has acknowledged that the system is still evolving and is not yet comparable to leading frontier models developed by companies like OpenAI and Anthropic.

The long term goal, according to Meta, is to bring consistent AI driven health assistance across its major platforms. This means users could eventually receive health related suggestions or basic advice while using WhatsApp chats, Instagram interactions, or Facebook services, making health guidance more accessible in everyday digital conversations.

At the same time, the idea has sparked discussion and concern, since health advice is a sensitive and highly responsible area. Experts suggest that before rolling out such features widely, Meta will need to ensure accuracy, reliability, and strict safety standards in its AI responses to avoid misinformation that could affect users’ wellbeing.

Social media platforms have already witnessed strong reactions from users even before the feature’s official launch. On X, formerly Twitter, some users expressed concern that AI could eventually replace roles traditionally handled by doctors and nurses. Others argued that relying on AI for medical guidance could be risky, as incorrect suggestions might lead to serious health consequences.

While opinions remain divided, one thing is clear. The integration of AI into health advisory roles marks a significant shift in how people may access medical information in the future. Whether it becomes a supportive tool for doctors or a point of controversy will depend on how safely and responsibly the technology is implemented.
