PM Modi Sets Record With Addresses to 19 Foreign Parliaments
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has addressed 19 foreign parliaments during his tenure, creating a historic milestone that reflects India's growing diplomatic presence and influence across global political platforms.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has achieved a notable diplomatic milestone by addressing 19 foreign parliaments between 2014 and 2026, the highest number recorded by any Indian Prime Minister. The achievement is being viewed as a reflection of India’s expanding presence and influence on the global stage.
Over the years, Modi has used international parliamentary platforms to present India’s views on democracy, development, global cooperation and strategic partnerships. His speeches have reached audiences across multiple continents, strengthening India’s diplomatic engagement with several nations.
According to official figures, Modi has undertaken 99 overseas visits covering 79 countries since assuming office in 2014. During these visits, he addressed legislatures in countries ranging from Australia and Nepal to the United States, the United Kingdom, Israel and several African nations.
The journey began shortly after he took office, when he addressed the parliaments of Australia, Fiji, Nepal and Bhutan. In the following years, he continued speaking before legislative bodies in Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, the United Kingdom and Afghanistan, further expanding India’s diplomatic outreach.
One of the most widely discussed moments came in 2016 when Modi addressed a joint session of the United States Congress for the first time. He returned to the same platform in 2023, becoming one of the few world leaders to receive the opportunity twice. Both speeches drew significant international attention.
In recent years, Modi also delivered addresses in the parliaments of Uganda, the Maldives, Guyana, Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Namibia and Ethiopia. These visits were seen as part of India’s efforts to strengthen ties with emerging economies and strategic partners.
A comparison with previous Indian Prime Ministers highlights the scale of the achievement. Jawaharlal Nehru addressed three foreign parliaments during his tenure, while Indira Gandhi spoke in four. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh addressed seven foreign legislatures, whereas Rajiv Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee each spoke in two.
His recent address before Israel’s parliament attracted considerable attention internationally. During the speech, Modi expressed solidarity with the people of Israel and conveyed condolences for victims of violence. The visit further reinforced diplomatic ties between the two countries.
Political observers note that the record is not only about the number of speeches delivered but also about India’s growing role in global affairs. The increasing invitations to address foreign legislatures are being viewed as a sign of the country’s rising international profile and expanding diplomatic influence.
