Karnataka heavy rainfall: As of June 24, 2025, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rain alerts for several districts in Karnataka. Red Alert (Extremely Heavy Rainfall):

Dakshina Kannada

Uttara Kannada

Udupi

Chikkamagaluru

Kodagu

Shivamogga

Bengaluru (Urban and Rural) – for moderate to heavy rain. The IMD attributes this widespread rainfall to several weather conditions, including an upper air cyclonic circulation over Marathwada and a trough extending to coastal Andhra Pradesh, along with a merged cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal.

Residents in these districts are advised to stay cautious and prepared for potential disruptions, including waterlogging and strong gusty winds. Local authorities have been alerted to manage rain-related incidents.

There are signs of monsoon revival in Kodagu, and the India Meteorological Department has issued an ‘orange alert’ valid till 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday, as there is a forecast of heavy rains. Though the district benefitted with the early onset of southwest monsoon in the third week of May, there was a break in rains for greater part of June.

During the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 a.m. on Monday, the district recorded an average rainfall of 71.6 mm compared to 8.54 mm recorded during the previous 24 hours. The cumulative rainfall received in Kodagu since January is 1,142.47 mm compared to 529.05 mm during the same period last year.
