A senior CSK official, speaking anonymously to publications like Cricbuzz, has stated, “We are definitely looking at Sanju.

He is an Indian batter, who is a keeper and an opener. So if he is available, we will certainly have a look at the option of having him in our fold.” The reports acknowledge that if CSK were to acquire Samson through a trade, Ruturaj Gaikwad would be a like-for-like swap in terms of player value (both were retained for Rs 18 crore).

However, CSK’s head coach Stephen Fleming has repeatedly emphasized that Gaikwad’s captaincy appointment was a long-term vision for the franchise. This makes a direct trade involving Gaikwad seem unlikely, but not entirely impossible, as trades in the IPL can be complex.

Other Potential Trade Scenarios:

Some reports suggest other potential trade scenarios if Samson were to move to CSK, such as a multi-player deal involving Ravichandran Ashwin and Shivam Dube heading to Rajasthan Royals.

With MS Dhoni at the fag end of his IPL career, Samson, an experienced Indian wicketkeeper-batter with leadership skills, would be an ideal fit for CSK to potentially fill that void in the long run.
