RV Deshpande confirmed CM Siddaramaiah Will Resign Tomorrow
Thursday Afternoon the Chief Minister has reportedly sought an appointment with Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot to formally tender his resignation.
Senior Congress leader and Administrative Reforms Commission Chairman R V Deshpande stated on Wednesday (May 27, 2026) that Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has decided to step down.
This development follows intense speculation surrounding a leadership transition within the Karnataka Congress, amid reports that the party high command has initiated a change of guard. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar is widely anticipated to take over the chief ministerial post.
The sudden development comes after key high-level meetings in Delhi, where party leadership reportedly discussed structural changes and the initial 2.5-year rotational chief ministership understanding agreed upon following the 2023 Assembly election victory.
Siddaramaiah is hosting a crucial breakfast meeting for his entire cabinet at his official residence Thursday Morning (May 28). He is expected to formally announce his decision to his colleagues during this gathering.
Thursday Afternoon the Chief Minister has reportedly sought an appointment with Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot to formally tender his resignation. A Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting will be convened in Bengaluru to officially elect the next leader on Friday / Saturday (May 29–30).
