Kodi Mutt Swamiji has stated that M.B. Patil has the “yoga” (planetary configuration/destiny) to become the Chief Minister of Karnataka. He reportedly made this statement during a mass marriage event in Kadani village, Alamel taluk, Vijayapura district. The Swamiji expressed a wish for M.B. Patil to become CM from the North Karnataka region.

It’s worth noting that the Swamiji has also made other predictions about the Karnataka government and political landscape, including that the current Congress government would not face immediate trouble and that CM Siddaramaiah’s position would be difficult to remove unless he himself chose to leave it.

However, recent statements from both the current CM, Siddaramaiah, and Deputy CM, D.K. Shivakumar, as well as the Congress high command, indicate that there will be no change. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has firmly stated that he will remain in office for the full five-year term. He has dismissed the speculation as baseless and questioned why there should be any doubt.

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has also publicly stated that there is no discussion on leadership change within the Congress party and that he is focused on strengthening the hands of CM Siddaramaiah and the government. He has emphasized the importance of discipline within the party and even warned MLAs against making public statements about leadership change.

The Congress high command, through leaders like Randeep Singh Surjewala (AICC general secretary in-charge of Karnataka), has explicitly ruled out any leadership change in the state. The rumors largely stem from the initial competition for the CM post between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar after the May 2023 assembly election results.

There were unconfirmed reports of a “rotational chief minister formula” where Shivakumar would take over after two and a half years, but this has never been officially confirmed by the party. Opposition parties (BJP and JD(S)) have also been actively fuelling these rumours.

In essence, while the “CM change” talk has been prevalent, the current leadership and the party high command have strongly denied any such plans, emphasizing unity and the stability of the government.
