K Annamalai Resigns Suddenly from BJP
K. Annamalai, a prominent leader of the Tamil Nadu BJP, resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today.
A major development has sent shockwaves through Tamil Nadu’s political circles. K. Annamalai, a prominent leader of the Tamil Nadu BJP, resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today. Rumors had been circulating for the past few days that Annamalai would leave the BJP to form a new party, but he had not dropped any hints about it.
Today, Annamalai met BJP National President Nitin Nabin in Delhi and submitted his resignation letter. The sudden resignation of former IPS officer K. Annamalai, who was recognized as a highly influential and aggressive leader in Tamil Nadu politics, has sparked intense debate in political circles.
Currently visiting Delhi, he handed over his resignation letter to the party’s in-charge and senior leader, Nitin Nabin. This development comes on the heels of the recent Tamil Nadu Assembly election results and internal rifts within the BJP.
The former IPS officer has not provided any official clarification regarding the reason behind his sudden decision. However, political analysts are speculating on several factors. Annamalai had launched a massive campaign, including the ‘En Mann, En Makkal’ (My Land, My People) padayatra (foot march), to bring the BJP to power in Tamil Nadu.
It is said that he took this decision by accepting moral responsibility for the loss, as the BJP did not achieve the expected success in the recent elections. On the other hand, there was severe dissatisfaction among senior Tamil Nadu BJP leaders against Annamalai’s aggressive style of politics. It is also being said that confusion between alliance decisions and the party’s internal leadership was the main reason for his resignation.
Annamalai had been camping in Delhi for the past few days. He held lengthy discussions with national party leaders regarding the political situation in Tamil Nadu. Even when questioned about forming a separate party, he did not give a clear answer and merely said, “Wait and see.” Today, he met BJP National President Nitin Nabin in Delhi and officially handed over his resignation letter. Even though the high command leaders tried to persuade him otherwise, it is reported that Annamalai stood firm on his decision.
The current curiosity revolves around whether Annamalai will take a break from politics or join hands with regional parties in Tamil Nadu. Close sources have clarified that there is no possibility of him returning to the police service. It is rumored that he is preparing to form a new party.
With the submission of his resignation letter to Nitin Nabin in Delhi, his five-year political journey with the BJP has come to an end. This has dealt a heavy blow to the BJP, which was trying to establish a strong foothold in South India. As soon as the news of Annamalai’s resignation broke, the hashtag #Annamalai started trending heavily on social media platforms.
Annamalai, who entered politics in 2020 and became the youngest Tamil Nadu BJP president, has not announced any immediate decision to form a new party. Instead, it is said that he is planning to launch a large-scale ‘Jana Chavalavali’ or ‘People’s Movement’ in the state. Annamalai stated that he would officially announce his next move within the next two days.
