Gujarat Cabinet all ministers resigns except CM Bhupendra Patel

Gujarat Cabinet: All ministers except Chief Ministers Bhupendra Patel have resigned from their posts in the Gujarat government ahead of the cabinet reshuffle. The chief minister has accepted their resignations and is expected to meet Governor Acharya Devvrat later today to stake claim to form a new cabinet.

The move is being seen as part of an administrative overhaul ahead of major political developments in the state. The Gujarat cabinet led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will be expanded tomorrow.

According to a senior BJP leader, around 10 new ministers are likely to be inducted, but half of the current ministers could be replaced in the reshuffle. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s cabinet will be expanded at 11:30 am on Friday, an official government release said.

The current Gujarat cabinet consists of 17 ministers including the chief minister, eight of whom are of cabinet rank and an equal number of ministers of state (MoS). Under the provisions of the state assembly, which has a total strength of 182 members, Gujarat can have 27 ministers, or 15 percent of the total strength of the House.

Earlier this month, Minister of State Jagadish Vishwakarma was appointed as the new president of the Gujarat unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party, succeeding Union Minister C.R. Patil. Bhupendra Patel, who first became the chief minister in 2021, was sworn in for his second term on December 12, 2022.
