Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked by a man
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked by a man during a “Jan Sunwai” (public hearing) at her residence. A man, who had come to the public hearing, allegedly slapped and attacked the Chief Minister. Some reports state he first handed over some papers before the attack.
The accused has been identified as Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakariya, a 41-year-old resident of Rajkot. He was immediately apprehended and taken into custody by police. The attack occurred at the Chief Minister’s official residence in the Civil Lines area of New Delhi, where she holds weekly public hearings to address citizens’ grievances.

Rekha Gupta was taken to a hospital for a medical examination. The incident has been widely condemned by leaders from various political parties, including the BJP and Congress. An investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the attack and to address the security breach.

Rekha Gupta is an Indian politician who has been serving as the Chief Minister of Delhi since February 2025. A member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), she is a first-time MLA, having won the Shalimar Bagh constituency in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections.
Gupta has a long political career rooted in student politics. She was the President of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) from 1996-1997. She has also served as a three-time councillor and held positions within the BJP’s Delhi unit and Mahila Morcha (women’s wing).
She holds a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree from Daulat Ram College, Delhi University, and an LLB from Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut.
Her appointment as Chief Minister came after the BJP’s victory in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, marking the party’s return to power in the capital after more than two decades. She is the fourth woman to hold the position of Delhi’s Chief Minister.
