Food Department Important Notice for BPL Cardholders: Complete this work by September 30
The state's new Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Rizwan Arshad, has directed department officials to temporarily halt the cancellation and revision of BPL ration cards in the interest of the public.
The Karnataka government has provided much-needed relief to the public amid concerns over the cancellation of ration cards. The state’s new Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Rizwan Arshad, has directed department officials to temporarily halt the cancellation and revision of BPL ration cards in the interest of the public.
However, the minister has made it clear that all 2.65 crore ration beneficiaries in the state must visit their nearest Fair Price Shop and complete their e-KYC verification on or before September 30.
Failure to complete the e-KYC process within the stipulated deadline will result in the cancellation of the respective ration cards. Once the verification drive is completed, the government will identify bogus or ineligible cards. Based on the number of such cards detected, eligible applicants who are currently waiting will be issued new BPL ration cards.
Meanwhile, the government is also introducing stricter measures to prevent the diversion of food grains and the illegal sale of rice distributed under the Anna Bhagya Scheme.
As part of these efforts, CCTV cameras will be installed in all food grain warehouses, while every vehicle transporting food grains will be fitted with GPS tracking devices and monitored through a centralized command centre.
In addition, the Food and Civil Supplies Department has made it mandatory for Fair Price Shops to distribute ration commodities immediately after collecting the beneficiary’s biometric fingerprint. Shop owners who delay distribution or ask beneficiaries to return on another day despite completing biometric verification will face strict legal action, the department’s Commissioner has warned.
