Surat Man Survives Miraculous Fall from 10th Floor, Caught on Iron Grille
Surat: In a dramatic turn of events, a 57-year-old man, Nitin Adiya, survived a fall from the 10th floor of a residential building in Jahangirabad, Surat, after getting stuck on an iron grille installed outside the 8th-floor window.
Fire department officials described the incident as “miraculous” and said the man was dangling for nearly an hour before being rescued. According to authorities, Nitin accidentally slipped while lying near the window in his flat in the Times Galaxy building.
He fell downwards, but the iron grille on the 8th floor prevented him from plummeting further. “The man was trapped head-down for almost an hour. It was a tense rescue operation, but fortunately, he survived without fatal injuries,” an official said.
Firefighters rushed to the scene around 8 a.m. after receiving an emergency call and carried out a delicate rescue operation. Nitin was carefully removed from the grille and immediately admitted to Gurukul Hospital for observation. Officials confirmed that he is now stable and undergoing treatment.
Videos of the incident and the rescue operation have gone viral on social media, capturing the tense moments as the firefighters worked to save him. “We saw him dangling from the grille. The entire operation required careful coordination to avoid any further mishap,” said one of the fire personnel involved.
Neighbors and residents of the building expressed shock and relief. “It was unbelievable to watch. We thought it could have been fatal, but thankfully, he survived,” said a resident who witnessed the event.
This incident highlights the importance of window safety in high-rise buildings. Authorities have urged residents to ensure that window grills are properly secured and to exercise caution near balconies and windows, particularly for elderly residents.
Nitin Adiya’s extraordinary escape has left many in awe, prompting discussions about building safety regulations and emergency preparedness. While he sustained minor injuries, the timely response of the fire department and the presence of the grille likely prevented a tragedy.
Officials have advised that families of elderly or physically challenged residents take additional precautions, including safety nets and routine maintenance checks of grills and balconies, to prevent such near-fatal accidents in the future.
