Security tightened for minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan after input says ISI targets him

Security has been significantly strengthened at the New Delhi and Bhopal residences of Union Agriculture Minister and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan following intelligence inputs suggesting that he has been placed on the radar of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

According to official sources, the alert was received recently, prompting swift action from the Union Home Ministry. Chouhan, who already enjoys ‘Z’ category security cover, has now been provided with additional security personnel as a precautionary measure. The move is aimed at neutralising any potential threat and ensuring enhanced protection for the senior BJP leader.

Soon after the intelligence warning was flagged, the Union Home Ministry wrote to the Madhya Pradesh Director General of Police and the Special Commissioner of Police in Delhi, directing them to immediately step up security arrangements. Following these instructions, security agencies have increased deployment around the minister’s residences, installed additional barricades and intensified the screening of visitors and vehicles.

Sources said access control measures have been tightened, with thorough verification of visitors being carried out. Surveillance in and around key locations linked to the minister has also been enhanced as part of standard operating procedures during high-risk alerts.

While officials have refrained from sharing specific details of the intelligence input, citing security reasons, they confirmed that all necessary steps are being taken in coordination with central and state agencies. Senior officers are said to be personally monitoring the situation to ensure there are no lapses.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan, a prominent political figure with a long public career, has previously served multiple terms as chief minister of Madhya Pradesh and currently holds an important portfolio in the Union government. Given his stature and visibility, security agencies routinely assess threat perceptions related to him.

Authorities have emphasised that the measures are purely preventive in nature and part of established security protocols whenever credible intelligence inputs are received. Investigations and monitoring remain ongoing, with agencies maintaining a high level of alertness to pre-empt any untoward incident.
