Guarantee schemes aim to uplift lives, not just build infrastructure, says Minister G. Parameshwar

Guarantee schemes: Minister G. Parameshwar has raised pointed questions about the real impact of infrastructure projects, asking whether constructing roads and drains alone can truly uplift marginalized communities.

Speaking at a Banjara community program in Tumakuru on Sunday, he emphasized that while development projects are important, the core purpose of the Congress government’s guarantee schemes is to improve lives and address long-standing social and economic inequities.

Parameshwar noted that merely building roads, drains, or other public works cannot transform the conditions of the poor. “The guarantee schemes are designed to end centuries of exploitation and provide tangible improvements in people’s lives,” he said.

The minister clarified that although certain infrastructure projects like road and housing construction or irrigation schemes may progress slowly, these initiatives have never been halted. The government remains committed to ensuring that development work continues alongside social welfare programs.

Highlighting the practical benefits of these programs, Parameshwar gave examples of women using government-provided funds to support their children’s education, such as purchasing laptops, and described how the schemes have provided employment and income opportunities in villages.

“Every villager benefits from these guarantee programs, which have brought real changes to the lives of those who previously had no voice,” he added. The minister also addressed criticism from opposition parties calling for the discontinuation of guarantee schemes.

He stressed that halting these programs would directly harm the poor. “Our government has never stopped work on roads, drains, irrigation projects, or housing schemes. Progress may be gradual, but it is continuous. Our focus is to improve and transform people’s lives,” Parameshwar said.

Through these statements, the minister reinforced the Congress government’s commitment to inclusive development, asserting that social welfare initiatives and infrastructure projects together form the backbone of its mission to uplift the economically and socially disadvantaged.
