Mumbai temple priest arrested after Kali idol decorated like Mother Mary, sparks outrage
Mumbai: A controversy erupted in Chembur after devotees were shocked to see the idol of Goddess Kali decorated to resemble Mother Mary. The unusual decoration inside a local temple angered devotees and several Hindu organisations. The temple priest has now been arrested.
The incident came to light when devotees arrived for darshan and noticed that the idol of Goddess Kali had been adorned in a manner similar to Christian iconography. Offended by what they considered a violation of religious sentiment, devotees immediately complained to the temple management.
As the news spread, members of several Hindu groups reached the spot and staged protests, demanding action. Police soon arrived and brought the situation under control.
During questioning, the priest claimed that Goddess Kali appeared in his dream and instructed him to dress her in the form of Mother Mary. Devotees rejected this explanation, calling the act an insult to their beliefs and traditions.
The priest has been taken into custody, and police have launched an investigation into the incident. Security has been tightened around the temple to prevent further unrest.
