LPG from ‘Shivalik’ to be unloaded 26000 tonnes in Mangaluru

The first ship carrying crude oil reached Mumbai on March 12. Then on March 16, the ship 'Shivalik' carrying LPG arrived at the Mundra port in Gujarat.

LPG: The tension between Iran, the US and Israel has led to a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which has hampered the movement of hundreds of ships carrying oil and Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). However, as a result of India’s diplomatic efforts, Iran has already allowed four ships, two of which have already reached India.

The first ship carrying crude oil reached Mumbai on March 12. Then on March 16, the ship ‘Shivalik’ carrying LPG arrived at the Mundra port in Gujarat. The ship was carrying a total of 46 thousand metric tonnes of LPG, of which about 20 thousand metric tonnes were unloaded at the Mundra port.

The remaining 26 thousand metric tons of LPG are likely to be brought to the Mangalore port today and unloaded. This is expected to provide temporary relief to the LPG shortage fears in the country.

In addition, two more ships, ‘Nandadevi’ and ‘Jag Ladki’, are likely to reach India today. ‘Nandadevi’ is carrying about 40 thousand metric tons of LPG, while ‘Jag Ladki’ is carrying about 81 thousand tons of crude oil.

According to petroleum dealers, the total LPG supply from these two ships will be around 92,700 metric tonnes, which is enough for the country’s needs for only 2 days. In addition to this, more than 20 Indian ships are stuck in the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, due to the medical emergency in Iran as a result of the war, Iran has reportedly requested to release the remaining ships if India provides medicines and medical assistance.

Officials, including the Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner, have assured that there is no shortage for home use. Distribution is currently strictly regulated to one cylinder every 25 days to prevent hoarding. Current Price. The price for a 14.2 kg domestic cylinder in Mangaluru stands at Rs 920.50 (following a Rs 60 hike earlier this month).

This sector remains under significant pressure. The supply of commercial cylinders was recently temporarily suspended or highly restricted to prioritize households and hospitals. This has unfortunately led to the temporary closure of some local hotels and street food stalls.
