Lawyer who threw shoe at ex CJI Ggavai assaulted with chappal in delhi court

New Delhi: In a dramatic incident inside Delhi’s Karkardooma Court complex, lawyer Rakesh Kishore — who recently made headlines for throwing a shoe at former Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai inside the Supreme Court — was assaulted with a slipper on Monday.

The attack has triggered shock and speculation, though the identity of the assailant and the exact motive behind the assault remain unclear. According to eyewitnesses, Kishore was walking near one of the court blocks when a man suddenly confronted him and hit him with a slipper multiple times.

A video clip of the attack has gone viral on social media. In the video, a visibly shaken Kishore is heard asking the attacker, “Who are you? Why are you hitting me?” Moments later, he is also heard raising slogans praising Sanatan Dharma. However, no formal police complaint has been filed yet in connection with the incident.

Preliminary suspicion suggests that the assault may have been retaliation for the shoe-throwing incident targeting former CJI Gavai during a Supreme Court hearing earlier this month.

Earlier, Kishore had publicly claimed he faced threats to his life following the shoe-throwing episode. He stated that police personnel had been deployed outside his residence, adding, “My life is still in danger. But God is with me. I cannot speak more about security.”

Meanwhile, former CJI B.R. Gavai has forgiven Kishore for the act. Following this, the Supreme Court dropped contempt proceedings against the lawyer. The bench observed that the matter should be closed considering the former CJI’s decision, but also added that guidelines would be considered to prevent such acts from being glorified or repeated in the future.
