IMD issued Heavy Rainfall Alert in these states

IMD issued Heavy Rainfall alert: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued heavy rainfall alert in these states.  Fairly widespread to widespread light or moderate rain, thunderstorms and lightning until next Monday, July 25. Isolated heavy rainfall over Chhattisgarh from Thursday to Saturday, July 21-23 Isolated heavy rains in Vidarbha on Friday and Saturday, July 22-23

IMD issued Heavy Rainfall alert both Chhattisgarh and Vidarha will remain on a yellow watch until Saturday. The advisory, which urges locals to “be updated” about the inclement weather, will also cover all their districts. These wet conditions can be attributed to the monsoon trough (currently near its normal position and likely to stay put for the next 2-3 days before gradually shifting southwards), a cyclonic circulation over Jharkhand and the adjoining Gangetic West Bengal tilting southwards, and an east-west shear zone running across north Peninsular India.

In fact, such rain spells have prevailed over Central India since the second week of July and downpours and thundershowers were observed over Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha yesterday as well. Chhattisgarh, in particular, has been facing a lot of disruption because of the heavy rainfall. Since the beginning of this week, heavy rainfall in many parts of the state have led to rivers being flooded and roads being submerged. Major rivers and rivulets in South Bastar have been swamped, and rainwater was seen overflowing, cutting off road connectivity in some parts.

On Wednesday, the national highway connecting the Dhamtari, Balod and Kanker districts got blocked due to landslides, leading to vehicles being stuck in jams on these highways. Hundreds of people remained stuck in traffic jams on the Chhattisgarh-Andhra Pradesh border, and several tried crossing the road by practically swimming through the rainwater amid heavy rainfall.

Vidharbha has been reeling under similar conditions as well. Rivers and streams flowing through the subdivision have swelled and overflowed due to the heavy rainfall. Many villages have been cut off and are facing power outages. Gadchiroli, Wardha, Amravati and Chandrapur districts are among the worst hit.
