IMD Issued heavy rainfall alert in these states

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rainfall alerts across several states, driven primarily by a well-marked low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal and ahead of the Southwest Monsoon’s expected arrival. IMD Issued heavy rainfall alert in these states.
The weather systems have created a distinct split in the country, bringing intense pre-monsoon deluges to the South and Northeast while parts of Northern and Central India battle severe heatwaves.
Southern India (High Alert):
A combination of low-pressure systems and atmospheric circulations has triggered widespread alerts across the southern peninsula:
Karnataka: The IMD has issued Orange and Yellow alerts for several districts.
Interior and Capital regions: An Orange alert is active for areas including Bengaluru, which is bracing for heavy thunderstorms, lightning, and isolated hailstorms.
High Alert Districts: Heavy downpours accompanied by gusty winds (40–50 kmph) are flagged for Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Shivamogga, Mysuru, and Chamarajanagar.
North Interior & Coastal: Districts like Bagalkot, Raichur, Koppal, Yadgir, and the coastal belt (Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada) are under a yellow watch for ongoing thunderstorms.
Tamil Nadu & Puducherry: Widespread rainfall has already eased recent heatwaves, but a heavy rain alert remains in place for the next 48 hours. Districts most affected include the hilly terrains of Nilgiris and Coimbatore, along with Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Karur, Tiruchirappalli, and Sivaganga.
Kerala & Mahe: Heavy to very heavy rainfall alerts are active as the Southwest Monsoon builds momentum over the Arabian Sea, with its official onset over Kerala predicted around May 26.
Northeast and Eastern India (Persistent Wet Spell):
Assam, Meghalaya, & Arunachal Pradesh: These states are under a week-long watch for isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall. The IMD warns that intense rain in these hilly terrains increases the risk of localized landslides and traffic disruptions.
Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim: Heavy rainfall warnings are active, particularly impacting travel routes toward destinations like Gangtok and parts of the eastern Himalayas.
Bihar & Jharkhand: These regions are expected to witness severe weather variations, including thunderstorms, lightning, and isolated hailstorms.
Andaman & Nicobar Islands:
The region is experiencing prolonged wet and stormy conditions. The IMD has forecast squally weather over the Andaman Sea with wind speeds reaching up to 60 kmph, prompting warnings for fishermen to avoid venturing out into the sea.
Residents in the alert zones—especially around low-lying urban areas prone to waterlogging and hilly regions vulnerable to landslides—are advised to monitor local administrative updates, avoid staying near weak structures during high-velocity winds, and restrict unnecessary travel during peak thunderstorm hours.
