Bihar Elections 2025: Congress sets a record in defeats; 100% defeat in the constituencies where Rahul Gandhi held a yatra!

Patna: The 2025 Bihar Assembly election results have delivered a severe blow to Congress, exposing the limitations of Rahul Gandhi’s campaign strategies and leaving the party reeling in a state where it once hoped to revive its influence.

The elections, which saw the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) dominate, have also underscored the failure of Rahul Gandhi’s voter outreach initiatives, including his extensive “Voter Empowerment Yatra” across the state.

Rahul Gandhi had embarked on a 1,300-kilometer journey across Bihar, starting from Sasaram and concluding in Patna, traversing 25 districts and 110 assembly constituencies. The campaign, aimed at connecting with voters and highlighting alleged attempts by the BJP to “manipulate votes,” was meant to galvanize public support for Congress.

Encouraged by previous successful campaigns, including the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the 2023 Telangana Assembly elections, the Congress leadership had high expectations from Gandhi’s tour.

The results, however, indicate a complete failure to convert this outreach into electoral gains. Out of 61 constituencies contested by Congress, the party is leading in only four: Valmiki Nagar, Kishanganj, Manihari, and Begusarai.

This represents a near-total wipeout for the party in a state where Gandhi and Congress had invested considerable political capital and energy. The so-called “Gandhi magic,” which had once helped the party secure 41 seats across India in prior campaigns, seems to have vanished in Bihar.

The performance of the NDA has been decisive. The BJP is leading in 91 seats, while its ally JD(U) holds a lead in 80 constituencies. Both parties contested 101 seats each, and their allied partners have also performed strongly.

Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) is ahead in 22 of the 28 constituencies it contested, while Upendra Kushwaha’s RLSP leads in 3 of 6 seats, and Jitan Ram Manjhi’s HAM is leading in 5 of its 6 contested seats. This widespread dominance has ensured that NDA is on track to form the next government in Bihar comfortably.

Throughout the campaign, Rahul Gandhi and Congress repeatedly accused the BJP of attempting voter manipulation and alleged “vote theft” to influence the election. Gandhi’s rhetoric, which aimed to alarm voters about the Election Commission’s neutrality and BJP’s tactics, has largely fallen flat.

The results indicate that Bihar’s electorate did not lend credence to these claims, showing clear preference for NDA candidates across the state. Political analysts point out that Congress’ decline in Bihar is not just a reflection of the NDA’s growing influence but also of the party’s inability to present a cohesive and credible alternative.

While Rahul Gandhi attempted to leverage his stature as Congress president and Opposition Leader to mobilize support, the lack of local organizational strength and effective messaging led to one of the party’s most dismal performances in decades.

The Bihar results mark Rahul Gandhi’s 95th electoral defeat, highlighting the persistent challenges he faces in reviving Congress’ fortunes across India. Despite years of high-profile campaigns and significant personal involvement, the party continues to struggle to connect with voters and translate political initiatives into tangible outcomes.

Congress leaders now face intense scrutiny over their strategy, candidate selection, and messaging, as the party must reckon with its diminishing influence in key states. The Bihar outcome not only weakens Congress at the state level but also sends a warning signal ahead of future national elections, emphasizing the urgent need for internal reforms and grassroots consolidation.

Rahul Gandhi’s extensive campaigns and public rallies have become symbolic of Congress’ ongoing struggle to regain relevance. The Bihar election results demonstrate that rhetoric alone cannot overcome organizational weaknesses or entrenched political opposition, and unless corrective steps are taken, Congress’ electoral challenges may persist well into the future.
